Homeschool Halloween Fun

So being homeschoolers we don’t have a class to have a party each holiday, we don’t have assemblies, we don’t have an award for perfect attendance….there are some fun school things that the kids do miss out on.    THAT IS WHY it is important to make homeschooling FUN!  Each holiday we take a day off of our regular subjects and do only fun….learning….activities that go along with that holiday.

This Halloween we had a great day!  The kids dressed up all day long and we….

1 .  Colored eggs like eyeballs and then put the eggs into a container of vinegar.  We had to leave them like that in the fridge overnight.  The next morning I poured out the vinegar and the eggs were so mushy feeling.  It was pretty gross.  The vinegar eats away the hard shell but leaves the soft membrane so it stays together…but warning push on it too hard and it does still break and get all over the place!

2.  I printed out some Halloween figures to make with legos and had the kids try to make them without instructions.  They did pretty good! img_7016

3.  We made and played with play-doh that was orange and smelled like pumpkin pie.  Smelled yummy enough to eat!  img_7017

4.  This was the most fun experiment…you take tea bags and empty the contents and then stand the tea bag up and light the top on fire.  It burns FAST but when it gets close to the bottom it FLIES!  (Like a ghost).  We did it over…and over…and over.img_7018 img_7021

5.  They don’t look like they were having a good day…pretty sure they did!   The kids drew a directed Frankenstein face.img_7031

6.  I saw that if you took dried Indian corn that it would sprout.  Well it took a couple weeks but one morning there it was they all sprouted!  Then they got moldy so I threw them out.   img_7319

We also filled baggies up with vinegar and put a little baking soda bomb in them and held onto them until the last minute and threw them as they exploded.  The kids also loved this and we did it over and over.   There are so many fun things to do.  It always takes a lot of time for me to plan these days and get everything to make it happen…but I am always glad that I did.
