Being a mom there is a lot of nagging….lots. One of the things I do not like is…nagging! Oh man it wears on an already tired mama! So I have been eliminating the nag.
I have tried pretty much every cutesy Pinterest chore chart there is. I have tried allowance. I have tried to get a chore schedule going on…but I am not very good at doing my chores on a set day and time – so how can I expect my kids to be. Well…they aren’t!
Here a few that we have tried…
Every plan we ever make for chores always fails. So I made up my own way to get my kids to help out around the house…
I ASK THEM! Ha! Fancy that…
There aren’t any charts…there isn’t even any money involved. I ask them to do something and they do it…they even do it willingly! Seriously they do!
I ask them to fold their laundry and it is done…I ask them to clean the bathroom counter and they do it! They really never give me any grief. Today is clean your room day. Most of the time it is a problem to really clean their bedrooms. I ask them to clean their room and they do…but really it is only the middle of the room that gets clean!
Some days that is acceptable to me…and some days it isn’t. So on Saturdays I make them REALLY clean their room, like even the stuff under your bed, clean. Now, if I look them in the eye and tell them to “really go and clean your room” it won’t be clean. So this is what I do to make that happen (please tell me other moms do this!)…
I pull every single thing that I want put away into the middle of the room (since that is the only part of the room that they can see)… and when I come back…
It looks like this! Clean! No crying, no whining, nobody is upset. In fact – everyone ends up happy!
This is brilliant! My kids are good about cleaning their rooms when I ask but it’s exactly as you describe -stuff is still piled in corners, under bed, etc. I am so doing this this week!
