2016-2017 Curriculum

I changed our curriculum a lot this year…because I’m the teacher…and when I see something not working, I can make changes!  (It is so nice!)

Our biggest change was starting with the co-op.  This meant we no longer to needed to focus on a couple subjects (Spanish, art, science, geography)…and so we only focus on the core courses together and then do the elective courses with our group.

Tryn – 4th Grade

Language Arts – Utah Online School – includes Literature, Composition, Grammar, Vocabulary, Spelling
Math – Teaching Textbooks, Math 4 (NEW*)
Bible, BOM – The Jesus Storybook Bible
Reading – books from library

Aubree – 2nd Grade

Language Arts – Utah Online School – includes Handwriting, Vocabulary, Writing Skills, Literature, Spelling
Math – Math-U-See – Beta
Bible, BOM – group subject (same as above)
Reading – books from library

Ryker – Kindergarten

Language Arts – Utah Online School – includes Phonics, Handwriting, Language Skills, Literature
Math – Utah Online School – Blue

With our co-op group we do Spanish, IEW writing class, geography, art & science.  I love our schedule this year.  It still takes up most of our day but having a day with our co-op is refreshing and a nice change each week!

The second biggest change we made was switching Tryn from Math-U-See to Teaching Textbooks.  She was sick and tired of math.  I looked at a bunch of curriculum (Abeka, Saxon, etc.) but I decided for Tryn workbooks were not the solution for her.  So I decided to jump in and get the Teaching Textbooks.  It is completely on-line.  The computer program teaches her a lesson and she has practice problems then the real problems.  Every couple of lessons she has a quiz.  It has been SO NICE so far!  We both love it!  She never asks me any questions about math anymore and gets 100% on almost every quiz.   LOVE it!!

Welcome to My Unlikely Life! Here you will see everything from raising my beloved chickens, being a mom and homeschooling my kids, and living in the country.
