First Day of School…and then the 2nd

Our first day of school was actually awesome!!!!  We woke up and I made breakfast (which is a treat by itself!)….coffee cake (one of their favs).  The kids all got ready, we took 1st day pictures, we went over where everything was in their desks and what is expected of them and talked about what they wanted to accomplish this year.  Then we stopped school and made snow cones and that was our first day of school 🙂  It was awesome!!! …then came the 2nd day of school :0

So the 2nd day of school wasn’t very smooth.  We actually had to figure out how everything was going to jive with all three needing me at the same time.  And it was HARD!  I always give myself a couple weeks to get into the groove.  This year is going to need those couple weeks.

All three kids have new subjects and with adding Ryker it makes it so I need to be smart about splitting my time.  This day I was trying to help Trynitee and then Aubree with Ryker constantly telling me he needed me, what can he do, he was sooooo bored 🙂  So I had to improvise and when I was helping one of the girls, I had the other one reading a book to him…which is tricky because he doesn’t like to SIT and LISTEN.  Two things that are hard for a 5 year old boy!  The 2nd day also went suuuuuppppper LONG.  We didn’t even take a lunch break til around 1:30pm.  It just took a long time to figure things out.  But I know not to get frustrated or impatient because it is new to all of us!  Homeschooling is not something to get stressed about at all!  That is one reason I love it!  I still put a lot of pressure on myself and I expect a lot from my kids…but I know it will all smooth out and there is time to get everything done.

Starting this year I was a little nervous because Ryker is going to make me think in new ways of teaching so that he doesn’t get bored and I want all of the kids to enjoy school.  It is a lot of pressure on me as a homeschooling MOM …. especially when other adults ask my kids if they LIKE school!?!  I want them to say YES!  I feel like it is a reflection on me!  But I know they probably won’t always like it, I can only try my hardest to make the whole of it a good experience.  Not all subjects are fun…but that is why I have FUN subjects at the end of the day and/or we go and do something fun the last half of the day.  There is no right or wrong….really, I am just learning as I go…..
