Deer in the Garden

I have “tried” to grow a garden for the past 8 years!  I don’t have a natural green thumb, so every year I change things up to hopefully a better garden.  I have had total bombs…minimal success…and maybe once or twice I actually had a great garden.  Well this year I thought it was a great one!  I started the beds clean — mixed with mulch, manure, and top soil.  I planted seeds and they all took off so well…I knew this year was THE year!

My mom and mother-in-law (who are amazing gardeners) came over mid-season and gushed over how great my garden looked…and I was super proud because usually it doesn’t look very good.

This is the garden first of July….everything looks so good!

Then a very unfortunately thing happened this year… a momma deer found my garden.  I have never had a deer problem because we always had a horse on the other side of the garden and he kept the deer away…but earlier this year we had to sell our beloved horse and it left the back 4 foot fence a small jump for the momma deer to come over and feast on my garden.  Before I knew it – she had destroyed most of it.

Her not-so-cute little footprints that she trampled my plants with.

So that day I went out and got a 4 foot plastic fence to put on top of our 4 foot wooden fence to keep that lady out.  I also got a couple of these bad boys from Amazon, Nite Guard.  I have heard good things about them and I actually put one by my chicken coop too…never can protect those ladies too much.   So we will see if this keeps momma deer out.  I do know I will get some veggies to harvest…just not as much as I had hoped for.
