“Commonwealth… a community founded for the common good.”
I put the definition here because I didn’t know what commonwealth meant at first (except the name does say it all)…and maybe YOU are wondering what it means too. I dunno???!!!
Sooooo we are trying something new this year and we joined a commonwealth. I am beyond excited and nervous. It has the potential to be LOTS of fun and a great experience for the kids (and me!)…but there are also a lot of nerves because it is new…there is work involved for me…I will be joining 9 other families (most I don’t know) to make a group, and I have responsibilities… and I am tied to the responsibilities and to the other families for at least a year.
BUT the overall goal of this commonwealth is for the same families to travel through the school years together so that the kids become good friends and the adults do too. I’m excited for my kids to learn from other moms and dads. I’m excited those parents can teach classes that I can’t. And I do the same for their kids. I am especially excited that the kids have one day to have classes with other KIDS! It is something I have been praying and searching for….this is it!
I’ve had to cut our school week to just 4 days because every Wednesday from 9:30-3:30 is a full day to be with the other families in the commonwealth. There have been meetings and tons of text/emails to get everyone in the position that will serve, to get dates and times set, to get meetings set… it is hard to accommodate 10 families with all different ages of kids and all different lives! But we got it all figured out and it starts September 12th!!! I have been looking for something like this for a couple years now. I have tried a couple groups…but this one is legit, there are rules, and expectations. No one is supposed to do more than another. There is a commitment…I am pretty excited to see how it goes.
The class schedule I am way excited about! There are classes for kids up to age 11 and then kids 12 and over (scholars) do separate classes. The classes for the younger kids (my kids) this semester are: Spanish, IEW, geography, science and art…all classes that my kids are going to LOVE!
