My little school room got a small facelift this year…and I love it! The kids all got new desks! I have been waiting for Ryker to join us this year so that I could get these desks that would fit all 3 kids perfectly. I followed in the footsteps of Confessions of a Homeschooler (my fav!) – and got some desks from IKEA. Each kid has a set of drawers that keep their subjects separate and it has made things so much more organized and easy to find! I keep all of my teacher books on my own shelves. This room is perfect for us and is going to be our school room for many many years…and I’m sure each year it will change juuuuust a little.
Here is a tour of the school room…boring to anyone except maybe a fellow homeschooler (I know I love to see others’ school rooms!):
This is my white board that we use everyday…mostly for spelling words and to hang all of our posters. The clipboards at the top are to hold their most recent art project…which are empty because they haven’t done anything yet!
This 4 cubby bookcase in the corner holds things that we don’t use regularly. The top tupperware thingy holds all the extra pens, pencils, markers — the 1st shelf has my art books and the prize container (when the kids get 100% on any test, they get to pick something out of the container), the 2nd shelf has all of our paint and glue, the 3rd shelf has coloring books and art supplies and the bottom shelf has misc. items.
These cubbies are my teacher supplies. I have a lot of crap!! Each year I accumulate more and more…I’m going to need another bookcase soon. Here is a breakdown of the cubbies: the top left has teacher books that I have read (or almost have read…or want to read) — the 2nd left holds encyclopedias, kids Bible, kids Book of Mormon, devotionals, etc. (we read these first thing in the morning) — the 3rd left holds all of the teacher books for Ryker’s subjects —the 4th left holds all of Aubree’s subjects — and the 5th left holds all of my books for Trynitee’s subjects.
The top right has all of my BOB books, manipulatives (mostly preschool/kindergarten items) — 2nd right holds all of my past math books and flashcards — 3rd right holds all of our Road Trip USA binders — 4th right holds fun history books and tons of Zoobooks magazines (that my kids love!) — 5th right holds books that the kids can read during reading time.
And I can’t forget that mess at the top! In the back are all of Trynitee’s art projects from an art class that she takes. There are more coming so I put them up there for now. Then in the tupperware are Math-U-See manipulatives and then the books to the right are past workbooks that I don’t know what to do with yet.
Piano…and violin…and globe… and catchall on top of the piano.
Oh cute!!!! Those are my cute kiddos on the first day of school — which I will post about soon…it wasn’t so pretty, but the school room was 🙂 Those are the great IKEA cabinets with tabletops (DESKS) …also the kids got new chairs. Each kid also has their own computer — 2 of them (the laptops) we got through the K12 program we use for Language Arts (ONLY)! It comes in handy for each kid to have their own computer at times.
Another view … with our mascot, Sim…he joins us everyday for school.
You are mom of the year! For real! I hope I am like you when my Louie grows up!
