I have changed our curriculum many times over the years. When I started, I started homeschooling in the middle of the school year and so I needed something quick, easy and ready for me to start using. We started through an online K-12 program, Utah Online School, and it was great! Even though we were late starting, they had everything that we needed online and ready for us to start. There wasn’t a very big learning curve and so we just dived in and Tryn was able to complete the whole year on time…even though she started about 6 weeks late.
The K-12 program was good for us, but eventually I saw some changes that needed to be made. Tryn did not like the math at all…and I didn’t either because it was aligned with common core…so the next year we switched to Math U See (which is also common core aligned but I had heard good things about it) and it seemed to work out a little better for 2nd grade.
By the time it was time to order curriculum for this past school year I had an even better idea of what would work for my kids. Which brings me to a great point of homeschooling! If you see something that isn’t working…then you have every right to change it! I love seeing the different ways that my kids learn best…and I go with it and order curriculum that is best for them! It really does make learning so much easier! So for this year we decided on:
Trynitee – 3rd Grade
Language Arts – Utah Online School – includes Handwriting, Literature, Vocabulary, Writing Skills
Science – Abeka – Abeka Science Unit 2
Art – World’s Greatest Artists 1, by Confessions of a Homeschooler
Math – Math-U-See, Gamma
Bible, BOM – We did the Duck Commander Devotionsfor Kids – they are cute
Reading – books from library
Spanish – Rosetta Stone
History/ Geography – Road Trip USA by Confessions of a Homeschooler
Aubree – 1st Grade
Language Arts – Utah Online School – includes Handwriting, Language Skills, Literature, Phonics, Spelling
Science – group subject (same as above)
Art – group subject (same as above)
Math – Math-U-See – Alpha
Bible, BOM – group subject (same as above)
Reading – books from library
Spanish – Rosetta Stone
History/ Geography – group subject (same as above)
I am changing many things for next year. Some subjects were great the whole year long…like the Road Trip USA. Some things we fizzled out during the year because of non-interest…like Abeka Science. I am still looking at our choices for next year, but when I decide I will post allllll about it!
